Sunday Snapshot: 100th Anniversary of the Kansas State Fair

We spent Saturday afternoon at the Kansas State Fair, which is celebrating it’s 100th anniversary this year! It’s the only place you can order a bratwurst dog and a dozen donuts for lunch without anyone batting an eye.

I didn’t take any pics this year, except at the Kansas concert! I missed the wheat fountain this year and the baked goods and veggies were roped off b/c they were still judging them. Downside of going the first day, though the upside is it’s not very busy.

Every year, I try to take a picture of the butter sculpture, but every year, the glass is both too dirty and reflecting too much light. Did you end up entering anything this year? I looked for your name among the baked things, but didn’t see it!

Yeah, I actually signed up for 12 entries (much less than usual – I think I entered at least 30 last year!) but just didn’t have the time. Baby is already taking over my life! But he will not stop me from entering at least the chocolate cake contest next year. And I refuse to let it be another disastrophy!

You must next year! When we went, hardly anything had been judged so the photographer’s names were all concealed and I wondered if any of it was yours and meant to ask you. Major brain fart that I totally forgot to! We must make a pact for next year that we’ll both enter. 🙂

It was 99 degrees that day, and you could tell none of us Kansans were acclimated to the heat. Everyone was hanging out in the commercial buildings because they had the best air conditioning. In previous years, 99 degrees would have been a relief!

Diana, I agree with you, Kansas has had a cooler summer this year! ( and then when it got a little warmer last seemed so **HOT** ) =)
